UPDATE! 11/1/05 Hello - Back again with more progress
(finally!) on the 'coupe. Things have calmed down enough around here
to start thinking about the big plane again, and I'm happy to say, I'm
back at it!
Wing surface detail is completed using pinked tape, inspection rings (balsa) which were included in the kit - and another shot of both wings, primed, sanded, primed again, and ready for painting. I'll use Hangar 9 Ultracote paint - Silver with a red leading edge.
Bang! They're painted.... not real happy with the quality of my paint job, then I was reminded by a former Ercoupe pilot that my wings look as good as many full-scale Ercoupe wings ever did! :-)
Here's the fuselage propped up and work being done includes pushrod installation, and figuring out the rudder bellcrank system. Also, you can see that I've sealed the wood and blacked out the entire cockpit area in preparation for work on the interior. Ahhhh, the landing gear - awaiting there new home on the Ercoupe. Added some nice aluminum hubcaps from Robart - they really look nice! Next, I'll add the fuselage side sheeting, hinge everything, and start finishing it all in flite metal..... 11/15/05
Test-fitting parts again, this time just to marvel at how large it's becoming....
This photo shows the rib/pinked tape detail on the fabric-covered wings.
Here it is on it's landing gear for the first time. Currently, all major components are built, and awaiting 'glassing, finishing, and flitemetal. Wings are done, and waiting for flitemetal covered ailerons. All that's left is to mount the engine, take it off again, and finish out the interior and exterior work on the fuselage, remount the engine, radio gear, and it should be ready to fly.... I'm shooting for February-ish. Usually, I like to bring out my latest to our club's mall show, but our mall sucks, so the club's decided not to have a show this year.....
